Annoying People on the Internet

The Internet has provided people across the world with the ability to converse with the click of a button. We can drop an email instead of pick up the phone. We can find long lost friends and make new ones. Sites like Facebook and Myspace enable us to share our life with whomever we choose at any given time. You can decorate your homepage to reflect the type of person you are, voice your opinion in your posts and comment on the opinions of your friends.

Being a member of these sites and a part time web surfer myself, I have come to realize a few things about our social networking sites and the people who use them, and a lot of these things annoy the hell out of me. Whether these are things that merely annoy me alone makes no difference, because they are things that are very true. I have an overwhelming need to share these things with you. I don't know where this need comes from, perhaps from my own desire to read your comments and to see who agrees. So here goes:

1. When a female says she "hates drama" over and over in her posts, headlines, blogs and profile info, it usually turns out that she is a drama causer.

2. Posting 300 pictures of your children and than commenting on the cuteness of each one DOES NOT make you a good parent.

3. While we're on the subject of pictures.... . .is it really necessary to post the 300 pictures from your family camping trip? Why do people think the people on their friend's list have any desire to see the dozen or so pictures you have of your campfire and/or the squirrel that came into your camp site?

4. Cheaters can and will use their social networking site to meet people. And that's very dumb.

5. People will post a gazillion head shots of themselves, and then say in a post how they hate conceited people.

6. I don't need to know what you're doing every 5 minutes. Don't post an update every time you start and end an activity.

7. Having over 3000 friends on your friends list in NO WAY makes you better than anyone else.

8. Everyone can see you're fat, you can angle the camera any way you want, but you're not fooling anyone.

9. If your profile says you are 48, than your picture should not be from 1972.

10. People will post a humble, enlightening comment and than argue with those who respond that they disagree.

Wow, I Have a Blog.

I have to say, this is surreal for me. I have always thought of bloggers as attention seeking persons with low self esteem. People who need extra pats on the back, or have a desire to let the world know their opinion on matters they usually have a foggy perception of. Am I wrong?

I have been playing around with the idea of starting a blog for the past year or so. I have been reading friend's blogs and random blogs and I have come to the conclusion that blogs are not as black and white as I originally thought. Not everybody cares what others think, they simply want place to vent and debate. To share their thoughts and have someone comment on it. This is not necessarily a bad thing, in fact, it can be healthy. To an extent.

Blogs are definitely a reflection of their authors. If they are a fake person, it will be a fake blog. If they are an attention whore, their blog will be filled with subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) propaganda on their life. A masochist will write about the joy of humiliation. An introvert may start a blog and never post....I think you get the idea.

 I think I have a pretty good idea of how this blog thing works, so I have one rule. I will always be a true reflection of myself. Shouldn't be to hard, right?
